Side Effects of Alkaline Water and How to Avoid Them

It has become a well-known topic whether or not drinking alkaline water has advantages and if there are any side effects to doing just that. With the invention of various Alkaline Water machines such as the SD501 Kangen Machine, it is noteworthy to ask if these are really healthy options or mere fads.
Although there will be many factors to consider when adding ionized water to your diet, here are a two of the most common unwanted side effects, people who are most likely to see the effects and how you can avoid them.
The first common side effect that people report is having flu like symptoms. Thankfully this isn’t damaging in a lasting way at all, but it can be quite discouraging and annoying. One of the main reasons you might feel down when switching from regular water to alkaline water has to do with the detoxifying that your body is going through. The molecules in alkaline water tends to be more compact and in clusters more so than in regular water. With that, our body absorbs the ionized water easier and the detoxification happens quicker than it would with standard water. This can lead to headaches and even diarrhea at times.
The second most common side effect will be the need to urinate a lot more frequently. Again, this isn’t something that should cause alarm even if it can be a bit frustrating at times. This happens, not quite because you’re drinking alkaline water, but rather since you are now increasing your daily intake of water. Urinating is a good thing for your body though. It is our body’s way of expelling the unwanted and harmful toxins in us.
Now that you’re aware of a few of the side effects that can occur, it isn’t necessarily going to happen to everyone. Those who have bad eating habits before starting to drink alkaline water, someone with an illness or the elderly are the most likely to see the above side effects. The good side of it is in almost every case, the side effects have been temporary. Usually within a few weeks, you’ll be back to normal and all effects will have disappeared.
Some people may not want to try adding alkaline water into their diets purely for the sake they don’t want to deal with those effects. There are ways to prevent them from happening however. Gradually adding alkaline water is the easiest way to avoid the side effects. It won’t be a shock on your body’s system when the cleansing process begins if you do start off with a lower alkalinity.
